Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen sustained a minor neck injury, her office reported on Saturday. On Friday evening, the head of the Danish government was attacked by a man at Kultorvet Square in central Copenhagen.

"After being assaulted yesterday, prime minister Mette Frederiksen was taken to Rigshospitalet for a medical check-up," stated the communiqué.

The assailant was apprehended on Friday immediately after the incident, and on Saturday, the police petitioned the court to arrest the 39-year-old man. A decision on this matter is expected shortly. The motives behind the attack are currently unknown. Media reports indicate that Frederiksen was either hit or pushed.

European politicians condemned the Friday attack on the Danish Prime Minister. I strongly condemn all violence against our political leaders. Nato allies stand together to protect our values, freedom, democracy, and the rule of law," emphasized NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg on platform X.
