Daisy Ridley breaks new ground in the Star Wars expansion. From Rey Skywalker to mentor
It's quite astonishing that the "Star Wars" series is now almost 50 years old. George Lucas introduced it to us in 1977, with "Part IV - A New Hope", starring Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, and Carrie Fisher. Over the years, this fantastical universe has incredibly expanded.
Significant growth has occurred in the last 10 years, during which fans were almost annually introduced to the next exciting chapter in this remarkably complex story. The foreseeable future is poised to welcome several anticipated premieres.
Daisy Ridley resumes her role as Rey
One such release will be a film by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, a Pakistani woman primarily known for directing short documentaries. In 2022, she directed two episodes of "Ms. Marvel" for Disney+. She aims to delve into the New Jedi Order plotline, but Daisy Ridley will not be the main character; instead, she will be training characters of color.
In an interview with French publication "AlloCine," Ridley shared more about the production. "Once I learned about the vision for this story, I knew I wanted to be part of it. I think it's a fantastic exploration of the "Star Wars" world and an interesting way to steer the story in a different direction," the actress enthusiastically stated.
As a reminder, the 31-year-old British actress first appeared in the galactic saga through J.J. Abrams' "The Force Awakens" in 2015. This was just her second role in a feature film. Later, she appeared in Claire McCarthy's "Ophelia", Rian Johnson's "The Last Jedi", and Abrams' "The Rise of Skywalker."
In the latest series, which is yet to be titled, the storyline takes place 15 years after "The Rise of Skywalker". As stated by the director, the central character will have a significant role in shaping the galaxy's history.
In 2023, the "Ahsoka" series by Dave Filoni, featuring Rosario Dawson in the lead role, was released. The series is available on the Disney+ platform. Other awaited titles include "Skeleton Crew" featuring Jude Law, Patty Jenkins' "Rogue Squadron," "Lando" with Donald Glover, and "The Acolyte."
