Potato pancakes are a beloved dish in our country and among the Czechs. The pancakes made by our neighbors are known for being incredibly crispy and having an appetizing aroma. What additional ingredients contribute to this effect?

Popular potato pancakes are excellent on their own, but there's a way to make them even more appetizing and filling. You can prepare them a little differently by following a Czech recipe.

What goes best with potato pancakes?

Czech potato pancakes are perfect for lunch, dinner, or a snack that satisfies even greater hunger. They can also be served as a side dish to other meals, such as grilled meat. What’s their secret ingredient? Finely chopped bacon adds crispiness and aroma. However, that's just one of the toppings that complement the pancakes. Add vegetables like onions or bell peppers to the potato mixture. Mushrooms work well, too. Many fans enjoy pancakes with a touch of horseradish.

Czech potato pancakes

Ingredients:

  • 2 lbs of potatoes
  • 1/2 cup of milk
  • 2 eggs
  • 7 oz bacon
  • 5 oz potato starch
  • 1-2 tablespoons of marjoram
  • 1 head of garlic
  • Salt and pepper

Preparation Method:

  1. Peel the potatoes and grate them finely.
  2. Dice the bacon.
  3. Mix the potatoes, eggs, potato starch, bacon, marjoram, salt, and pepper in a bowl.
  4. Add milk and crushed or chopped garlic, then mix thoroughly.
  5. Heat the fat in a pan.
  6. Spoon the pancakes onto the pan and fry on both sides until golden brown.

It's important!

  • You can add a tablespoon of wheat flour to the batter for even crispier pancakes.
  • The pancakes can be fried in lard, canola oil, or olive oil.
  • Various sauces complement the pancakes well, such as sour cream, mushroom, or garlic sauce.
