Instead of reaching for chemical substances, try the proven trick with a raw potato. It doesn't cost much, and it will help get rid of the age-old problem of foggy windows. It's not magic - it's all down to starch and its properties.

What should I use to wipe the windows so they don't fog up? Just a potato will do

Window fogging is a phenomenon that involves water droplets settling on a cool glass surface. It is caused by the difference in temperature and humidity between the interior of the car and its environment. The problem of foggy windows is particularly severe in the fall and winter when these temperature differences are very high. There are chemical products on the market that protect windows from fogging. However, there is no need to reach for such specifics. One potato is enough.

If you want to use a potato as a means to prevent windows from fogging up, there are a few easy steps to follow. First, thoroughly wash the potato, getting rid of any dirt and other contaminants. Then, cut the potato in half and use these halves to thoroughly rub your car's windows on both the outside and inside so that they are covered in a thin layer of starch. After this, leave the glass to dry for a few minutes, and then carefully polish the window with a microfiber cloth, old pantyhose, or newspapers made of soft paper.

How does a potato prevent windows from fogging up?

A potato contains starch, which forms a thin protective layer on glass. This layer prevents the condensation of water vapor. Starch is a polysaccharide, which is a complex carbohydrate that consists of numerous glucose molecules connected by glycosidic bonds. Starch has the ability to bind water and form a gel, which reduces the surface tension of the water and makes it difficult for it to deposit on the glass.

Applying this patent will not only protect the glasses from fogging but also give them shine and cleanliness. You can also use the potato trick in the bathroom, rubbing the tuber onto the mirror which often fogs up after a bath. The potato will also come in handy as a means for polishing glasses in windows.
