Courtroom chaos: Suspect attacked by victim's family
Dramatic scenes unfolded at a court in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Alexander Ortiz, who is suspected of murder, was attacked by the uncle of the murdered woman. Ortiz is accused of fatally shooting his ex-girlfriend, Alianna Farfan, and another woman.
During the hearing, Carlos Lucero, the uncle of the murdered Farfan, jumped over the barrier and attacked Ortiz. Despite Ortiz's attempts to flee, Lucero brought him to the ground and began delivering blows. Another man from the victim's family joined in, kicking Ortiz.
The father of Ortiz tried to intervene. However, instead of separating the fighters, he also began delivering blows. A security guard from the Metropolitan Detention Center quickly arrived at the scene, but he was also attacked.
Carlos Lucero and Pete Ysasi were arrested and charged with assaulting an officer and assaulting the accused. The recording shows a woman who was also involved in the fight. This woman remains at large, and an arrest warrant has been issued.
"It was worth it"
The uncle of the murdered girl does not regret his reaction. He told law enforcement that Ortiz "killed my niece like a coward" and added that "it was worth it."
Ortiz is suspected of killing his ex-girlfriend, Alianna Farfan, in her apartment in January of last year. Friends who were in the apartment heard the shot and found her with a facial wound. Ortiz escaped through a window.
The man is also suspected of murdering another woman, Nicole Maldonado, who was fatally shot less than a week after Farfan's death.
