Court halts sales of TikTok-famous chocolate over false label
A court in Cologne has prohibited the sale of pistachio chocolate in the German Aldi chain. The product, known as the "TikTok hit," was discovered to originate from Turkey, not Dubai, as the label claimed. The court's decision was due to the falsification of the country of origin.
The Cologne court banned the sale of pistachio chocolate in the Aldi chain, which gained immense popularity thanks to TikTok. The product sold under the name Alyan Dubai Handmade Chocolate comes from Turkey, misleading consumers.
The court's decision resulted from a complaint filed by Andreas Wilmers, an entrepreneur who imports genuine Dubai chocolate. Wilmers emphasized that the false designation of the country of origin negatively impacts his business. The court ruled that the label suggested an origin from Dubai, which was not valid.
Aldi Süd, the German retail chain, has been burdened with legal costs and has announced an appeal. However, until the issue is resolved, violating the sales ban could result in a fine. Andreas Wilmers plans to take further legal action against other chains selling similar products.
