A video showing a delivery driver kneeling before a security guard has sparked a wave of protests among couriers. According to the BBC's information, the incident occurred in the Chinese city of Hangzhou. Security guards detained the delivery driver there, accusing him of damaging barriers during a delivery.

Security guards at one of the buildings detained the food delivery driver. Fearing delays in fulfilling subsequent orders, the driver dropped to his knees. He reportedly begged the security guard for permission to continue driving, which was confirmed by local police.

This incident has caused a massive outcry on the internet, where users began to demand better treatment of couriers and improved working conditions in the industry. As reported by the BBC, there are about 12 million delivery drivers in China, and their numbers surged during the pandemic, which only increased pressure on these low-paid workers.

The delivery industry is known for its rigorous deadlines, where low-paid employees are penalized for delays and negative customer reviews. Many of them work long hours, earning very little. More and more people are demanding changes in this industry to ensure more dignified working conditions and greater safety for couriers.

Monday's incident in Hangzhou catalyzed a mass protest, during which hundreds of couriers gathered in front of the building in the city center. In the face of growing tension, local authorities decided to send officers, including members of the special SWAT unit, to restore order and prevent a potential escalation of conflict.

Videos circulating on social media showed a crowd of delivery drivers chanting loudly, "Apologize! Apologize!" demanding an official apology for their colleague's humiliation by the security guard. This act of solidarity among couriers highlighted the deep sense of frustration among workers in the delivery sector.

The delivery platform Meituan, for which the affected driver worked, promised to "take full responsibility" for conducting an investigation. It is set to verify whether its employee was unfairly treated. The company covered the costs of repairing the damaged barriers.
