Cottage cheese patties: A protein-packed, vegetarian delight
Cottage cheese is a versatile product in the kitchen. However, many people only use it for sandwiches, not realizing the myriad dishes that can be made with it. With its characteristic granules, this high-protein ingredient can enhance traditional dishes with valuable nutrients. One of the many options is cottage cheese patties with boiled eggs—perfect for a vegetarian dinner.
These patties have it all. Cottage cheese provides protein and calcium, which are essential for building muscles and maintaining healthy bones. Eggs are rich in vitamins and healthy fatty acids. Oatmeal supplies B-group vitamins, minerals, and fiber, which supports proper intestinal function. Combining these ingredients creates a nutritious meal that keeps you feeling full for a long time.
Fried patties or the oven version?
If you're limiting fried foods, try baking the breadcrumb-covered patties in the oven. Place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit. After 10 minutes, carefully flip them to the other side using a metal spatula. Bake until golden brown for another 5-10 minutes.
Recipe for cottage cheese patties
To make the patties, in addition to cottage cheese, you'll need oatmeal and 6 hard-boiled eggs. Instant oats are the easiest to use, as they soften after 2-3 minutes. Boil the eggs, let them cool, and peel off the shells.
Ingredients:
- 1 package of cottage cheese (7 ounces)
- 1 raw egg
- 1.8 ounces of instant oats
- 6 hard-boiled eggs
- Half a teaspoon of salt
- A pinch of pepper
- A handful of fresh herbs—parsley, dill, chives, or cilantro
- 3.5 ounces of breadcrumbs
- Oil for frying
- Optional: 1 tablespoon of mustard or olive oil
Instructions:
- In a bowl, mix cottage cheese with the raw egg and oats, then set aside for 5 minutes.
- Grate the hard-boiled eggs using a coarse grater or mash them with a fork. Add to the cottage cheese mixture and mix well.
- Add half a teaspoon of salt, a pinch of pepper, and chopped herbs. Add a tablespoon of mustard or olive oil if the mixture is too dry and won't stick.
- Form the mixture into patties with your hands. To prevent sticking, you may want to wet your hands with water.
- Coat in breadcrumbs and fry until golden brown in a pan with heated oil.
- Place the finished patties on a paper towel to drain excess oil.
