In the face of a sparse film market, American cinemas are turning to music documentaries focused on contemporary pop stars. This week, it is Beyoncé's success being celebrated in cinemas.

The leading pop culture star of the 21st century seems to be American singer Taylor Swift. Analysts forecast that her concert tour will generate revenue upwards of 4 billion dollars! Swift's fan base demonstrates a not only willingness to fill large stadiums worldwide, but also the capacity to fill cinemas.

The cinematic recording of her tour "The Eras" grossed 250 million dollars globally, setting a new record for music documentaries. Due to the spectacular success of Taylor Swift's concert in cinemas, distributor AMC Theaters hurriedly included a concert film by another popular figure - Beyoncé - in their roster.

The Beyoncé documentary, "Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé", was another hit. It was the highest-earning movie in American cinemas last weekend, reaping 21.8 million dollars in just three days. Simultaneously, "Napoleon", premiered a week earlier, saw popularity plummet by 65 percent, making only 7.3 million dollars over the weekend.

US cinema market analysts attribute the success of music documentaries to their popularity, as well as a recent lack of hit films. Over the past four months, there haven't been any significant film releases. "Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour" led the autumn box office, followed distantly by "Five Nightmares" and "The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Birds and Snakes" in the traditional film category.

Critics have described "Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé" as a music-infused erotic spectacle. Known for her daring videos, Beyoncé maintains this artistic direction in her concerts. "The entire concert is infused with sensuality. Beyoncé often resembles an erotic dancer more than a singer, with her audacious and provocative outfits," a critic from Decider wrote.
