According to a statement published on Facebook by the actor's daughter and goddaughter, Amy Goudy, part of the family learned of Amos's death 45 days earlier only from the media, which aroused their suspicions. The statement suggested that K.C. did not inform the family and implied that the quick cremation might have been intended to prevent any investigation into the cause of death.

Amos's longtime spokesperson, Belinda Foster, commented to "People" that the allegations are false. According to her, the actor's son and she herself cared for Amos until the very end and collaborated with him. She revealed that the delay in announcing his death was at the actor's request. "At the time of his death, John was concerned that Shannon might turn his death and interment into a circus as she had done with other aspects of his life," said the actor's spokesperson.

According to a document obtained by "People," John Amos's death occurred on August 21 in California. The cause was heart failure. His body was cremated nine days later, and the person responsible for reporting the death and having the right to the ashes was his son, K.C. Amos.

The siblings had already been at odds over their father. The sister accused the brother of abusing their father, even setting up online fundraisers to collect money for the care of their famous dad, which were removed at John Amos's request. Today, the woman's accusations are repeated. According to Goudy and Shannon, the actor was isolated, manipulated, and likely forced to change his will. The actor's spokesperson stated there are no grounds to claim anything terrible was happening to the actor before his death.
