Richard Lewis, whose work on "Curb Your Enthusiasm" is widely acclaimed, depicted a semi-fictional version of himself across 12 seasons available on HBO Max. For 24 years, Lewis crafted a character that was both neurotic and complex, a trait mirrored in his stand-up routines. Fans can still enjoy several of his performances online, including "Diary of a Young Comic" and "Magical Misery Tour."

In 1989, he starred opposite Jamie Lee Curtis in the sitcom "Anything but Love," portraying co-workers navigating their romantic feelings while trying to stay professional. Curtis’s role in the series earned her a Golden Globe, and interestingly, the show received an Emmy nomination for its hairstyles. Upon hearing the news of his passing, Curtis paid tribute to Lewis on Instagram, sharing memories of their first meeting and lauding his exceptional comedic talent. She also credited him with aiding her journey to sobriety, expressing her gratitude with heartfelt emotion.

Lewis's notable film roles include appearances in "Robin Hood: Men in Tights," "Leaving Las Vegas" alongside Nicolas Cage, and "Sandy Wexler" with Adam Sandler.
Lewis was transparent about his battles with substance abuse, depression, and anxiety, themes that frequently surfaced in his comedy acts. His decision to become sober was significantly influenced by the tragic death of John Candy in 1994.

HBO expressed their sorrow, stating, "We are heartbroken. His comedy was unrivaled in talent, wit, and intelligence. Richard will forever be cherished in the HBO family and the 'Curb Your Enthusiasm' series. We extend our deepest sympathies to his family, friends, and fans, who could always rely on Richard to bring joy and laughter into their lives."
