Combatting hard water woes: Simple steps for limescale-free living
Hard water from municipal water systems is a problem in many cities. It causes skin dryness and limescale buildup on fixtures. However, there are ways to get rid of it.
Several symptoms can identify hard water. First, clothes washed without fabric softener become stiff and wrinkled. Second, fixtures become coated with hard-to-remove limescale. Third, skin becomes dry, and hair condition deteriorates. Fourth, limescale quickly appears in the electric kettle.
How to prevent limescale buildup?
While we cannot control water hardness, we can soften it by investing in specialist filters. They remove heavy metals, microplastics, and contaminants, making the water not only tastier but also less harmful to skin, hair, and fixtures.
Mineral salts and elements contained in hard water settle on various surfaces, creating limescale. Regular descaling of appliances that come into contact with hard water can prevent this. Often, however, due to the rush of duties, we postpone cleaning, which leads to a thick layer of limescale on faucets and showers.
Effective way to remove limescale
To remove limescale from a faucet, you can use a straightforward method. You'll need a small amount of laundry detergent and vinegar. Vinegar effectively removes limescale, and the detergent enhances its action. This mixture removes even thick layers of limescale.
To prepare the paste, mix the detergent with vinegar in a 1:2 ratio to create a thick paste. Then, rub it onto the faucet surface covered with limescale, leave it for 5 minutes, and then wipe it off with a damp sponge soaked in warm water. The limescale will disappear without a trace. This method can also be used to descale the showerhead and shower cabin.
