Cocaine bust: French officials seize yacht in Bay of Biscay

The French maritime prefecture in the Atlantic has reported the seizure of approximately 895 pounds of cocaine from a yacht sailing under the Polish flag in the Bay of Biscay. The operation, which took place from Thursday night to Friday, was conducted with the consent of Polish authorities.

In an official statement, the prefecture announced customs officials confiscated the drugs during the nighttime operation. Two individuals were onboard the yacht, and their nationalities are being verified.

Upon noticing the presence of customs officials, the crew attempted to destroy the evidence by setting the vessel on fire and trying to sink it along with the cargo.

The cocaine, hidden in 19 packages, was secured by the Narcotics Control Office (OFAST). According to the details in the statement, the yacht transporting the drugs was sailing from the Caribbean region and aimed to reach Europe.

The entire operation was conducted with the consent of Polish authorities, as emphasized in the official statement.
