Cloves unexpected health benefits. Liver detox, cancer prevention and more

Recent studies have shown the immense potential of cloves in combatting liver diseases. Scientists posit that this is due to their eugenol content, which aids in ridding the body of toxins.

Research published a few years ago in the "International Journal of Food Sciences and Nutrition" found that this compound improves the systems that metabolize harmful substances and aids in detoxification processes.

In a different study, the protective properties of cloves were examined through an animal trial. The test subjects were given ethyl alcohol, and a subset also received a preparation containing cloves.

It was discovered that there was a significant increase in the level of inflammatory markers and a decrease in antioxidant enzymes in the group that did not receive the clove extract. According to the authors of the experiment, this suggests a protective effect of the spice on the liver.

The spice could have anti-cancer properties

Cloves are rich in polyphenols, natural antioxidants that are believed to inhibit the development of various diseases, including strokes, hypertension, type 2 diabetes, and possibly some types of cancer.

Scientific findings suggest that consumption of eugenol, found in cloves, can inhibit cell proliferation, which may increase the risk of liver cancer.

Cloves can help with common ailments

It's also worth considering cloves for treating toothaches and headaches. Studies show their anesthetic and antibacterial properties, which can help ease these discomforts.

For a headache, massaging the temples with cloves soaked in something like coconut oil can provide relief. This spice can also assist in treating oral fungal infections. Plus, chewing cloves can help eliminate bad breath.
