Fall and winter seasons mean one thing: turning on the heating. The bills for this can sometimes be astronomical and heavily strain your wallet. So, how can you heat your apartment without spending a fortune? Here are some proven methods.

Keep the heat: methods to maintain temperature in the apartment

The first crucial task you should undertake before turning on the radiators is to clean them thoroughly. Accumulated dirt can block the flow of heat, leading to higher bills. Therefore, it is very important to review the installation, bleed the radiators, and clean them.

The next method for increasing the temperature in apartments is using curtains and drapes. When frosty days arrive, cover the windows. This provides an additional layer of insulation, protecting against the cold. On sunny, warmer autumn days, leave the windows uncovered for as long as possible. Solar energy will naturally penetrate inside and warm it up a bit.

Sealing that few remember

Most windows have two sealing modes. When the heating season arrives, don't forget to set the windows to "winter mode." How do you do this? Check if your windows have a metal screw that adjusts the seal pressure. If so, use a screwdriver to turn the screw 90 degrees. The more you tighten it, the less air will pass through the windows.

If your windows do not have a screw near the seals, you can always purchase sealing strips or silicone seals, which will also reduce heat loss. Experts recommend mounting foam, as this product eliminates so-called thermal bridges.
