While nutritionists advise limiting frying, there are some dishes you just can't do without it. Potato pancakes straight from the pan are the best. However, frying them involves hot oil splattering, which can be hazardous. Oil not only makes cabinets or countertops dirty but can also cause burns. It’s worth knowing a simple trick to prevent this.

A simple recipe, but then..

Potato pancakes are a classic dish. They are very easy to prepare. Just peel the potatoes and grate them. Then you add an egg, spices, and sometimes flour and onion, depending on the recipe. The prepared mixture goes into the pan. Frying is definitely the most challenging part of preparing pancakes.

Why does it splatter so much?

The problem is that the potato mixture is rich in water and starch, which causes the oil to splatter. However, you can prevent this by using regular table salt. Sprinkle at least 1/3 teaspoon on the hot oil to absorb the excess moisture, thereby reducing splattering. The oil for frying pancakes should be suitable for high temperatures. The best choice is canola oil, which has a versatile flavor. Pancakes fried in it will be crispy on the outside and delicate inside.

Important!

To make the pancakes crispy, it’s crucial that the mixture goes into really hot oil. Fry them for 3 to 5 minutes on each side, and when done, place them on a paper towel to absorb the excess oil.
