Three individuals sustained injuries in a scuffle triggered by about 20 supporters of the PKK, a group labeled as a terrorist organization. These supporters rallied at the airport to protest against the deportation of PKK member Firaz Korkmaz to Turkey, fearing he would face torture and imprisonment upon arrival.
The protesters confronted the National Repatriation Unit's team tasked with escorting Korkmaz, leading to clashes with the team and the airport's civilian staff.
The discord escalated from the police station to the terminal, prompting military personnel to step in. The soldiers managed to quell the disturbance, to the astonishment of onlookers.
The demonstrators clashed with agents from the National Expulsions Unit (Unesi) assigned to oversee Korkmaz's departure. They also attempted to breach security gates into restricted areas without authorization.
Despite an ongoing investigation, no arrests have been made yet. Kurdish activist Firaz Korkmaz was ultimately deported to Turkey.
