Artificial intelligence has become the latest trend in web browsers. At the outset of 2023, Microsoft Edge incorporated Copilot, unveiling a dedicated side panel for this virtual assistant within the browser. This addition allows for easy activation of Copilot at any time. Furthermore, Copilot was enhanced with a new feature in the context menu, facilitating command inputs based on the selected text. Taking inspiration from Microsoft, Opera introduced its smart assistant, Aria.
Until recently, Chrome lagged behind its rivals in AI integration. Users opening Chrome would hardly guess that it's a product of the same company behind Gemini, a direct challenger to ChatGPT, Copilot, and Aria. However, changes are now underway.
Gemini finally integrated with Chrome
Google has recently revealed the integration of its AI system, Gemini, directly into Chrome's address bar on computers. This integration allows users to execute AI commands by simply typing "@gemini" followed by the desired command, eliminating the need to navigate to the Gemini website.
Although typing "@gemini" and a command—a total of seven characters—might seem more cumbersome than the single-click actions available in browsers like Edge or Opera, it represents progress. Google has also announced the expansion of the Gemini app's availability on Android, extending its reach to over 100 countries. Despite the absence of the European Union on this list, installing Gemini remains straightforward and user-friendly.
