Chokeberry preserves: The secret superfood for cozy fall meals

During the fall, I choose dishes that warm from the inside, providing energy and vitamins. Recently, while going through my home supplies, I discovered a jar of preserves that turned out to be a perfect addition to oatmeal. I can prepare a bowl full of health in just 2 minutes for breakfast or lunch while working.

In the summer, I add fresh fruit, but in the fall and winter, I opt for additions that I can mix with hot oatmeal. I want the dish not only to warm my stomach but also to positively impact my health. That's why I was so delighted with the chokeberry preserves I got from my mom. It turns out this addition pairs wonderfully with oatmeal.

The forgotten chokeberry is full of valuable nutrients

Chokeberries primarily contain a wealth of antioxidants. The tart skin discourages many people from reaching for these fruits, but it's not an issue in preserves. From chokeberry, you can prepare preserves and delicious juice or liqueur.

It's worth remembering chokeberry preserves when you're feeling under the weather. They contain a large amount of vitamin C and have anti-inflammatory properties. They also offer significant support for the digestive system, preventing constipation. Chokeberries positively affect vision, help lower blood pressure, and reduce bad cholesterol levels.

What can you use chokeberry preserves for?

I'm not sure if I have enough supplies for all the experiments, but I already know that chokeberry preserves taste great as an addition to oatmeal and when paired with blue cheese. You can add it to a vinaigrette and drizzle it over a salad with arugula, blue cheese, roasted pear, and walnuts.

My mom's chokeberry preserves have a light consistency, so they also work well as a sauce for pouring over pancakes, classic crepes, or waffles.

How to make quick oatmeal with chokeberry in 2 minutes?

I prefer oatmeal cooked with water because it is much lighter than when prepared with milk. However, if you prefer creamier oatmeal, add regular or plant-based milk, such as oats, almonds, or coconut.

Ingredients:

  • 3.5 oz instant oatmeal
  • 7 fl oz water
  • A pinch of salt
  • 1 tablespoon of honey
  • 2 tablespoons of shelled walnuts
  • 2 tablespoons of chokeberry preserves

Instructions:

  1. Pour water over the oatmeal and bring it to a boil. Once it starts bubbling, remove it from the stove.
  2. Mix it with a tablespoon of honey and crushed walnuts.
  3. Place 2 tablespoons of chokeberry preserves on top.
