Chinese onion flower recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 large onion
  • 1 egg
  • Salt, pepper
  • Sweet paprika powder, dried thyme
  • Rice flour (or wheat flour)
  • Oil for frying
  • 2 fl oz of milk

Preparation:

  1. First, peel the onion and place it on the lid so it doesn't move. Then, cut the onion in a cross, trying not to cut it through. The lid will help stop the blade at the right place.
  2. Spread the onion layers to resemble a flower.
  3. Put the onion in a bowl of cold water and leave it for an hour, so the vegetable is completely submerged.
  4. In a separate bowl, mix the egg, milk, and spices. Place a plate with flour next to it. Dip the dried onion in the egg mixture and coat it in flour. Repeat this process twice.
  5. Heat the oil and fry the onion until it is golden. Serve the onion flower warm with your favorite sauce.
