Beijing's Children's Hospital, which sees no less than 7,000 patients daily, is significantly exceeding its capacity. Simultaneously, China maintains that no new diseases have been detected. However, officials reported last Thursday that hospitals are full of children suffering from respiratory conditions.
On Wednesday, November 23, the World Health Organization (WHO) requested detailed information on the surge in respiratory disease cases and reported pneumonia outbreaks in children from Beijing's authorities,
Previously, the WHO had issued a statement about the concerning situation in Northern China. The statement reads, "It is unclear if this is related to the general increase in respiratory tract infections, as previously reported by Chinese authorities, or if these are separate occurrences".
According to last week's report, the largest pediatric hospital in the neighboring city of Tianjin had over 13,000 children admitted to outpatient and emergency departments.
Radio Free Asia (RFA) reports that children's hospitals in Northern China are overflowing. The young patients have been diagnosed mainly with bacterial pneumonia.
In the wake of the pneumonia outbreak in China, children's hospitals in Beijing, Liaoning, and other regions are overwhelmed with sick children. Many parents are questioning whether the authorities are concealing a pandemic - ProMed told FTV News.
The resurgence of respiratory diseases comes as China prepares for its first winter season since the strict "zero-Covid" measures were lifted.
