The desire to gain popularity can end tragically. A woman from China, Pan Xiaoting, learned this the hard way as she died in front of viewers. The cause was overeating.

The internet has seen a rise in the popularity of broadcasts called Mukbang. These involve eating huge amounts of unhealthy food in front of a camera. Twenty-four-year-old Pan Xiaoting broadcasted for over 10 hours. During this period, she consumed over 22 pounds of food. Disturbingly, she had engaged in similar practices before, only encouraging viewers to emulate her. Unfortunately, on July 14, her body couldn't take it anymore.

Streamer died from overeating

Pan Xiaoting died on July 14 of this year during a broadcast. According to the Daily Mail, the cause of death was overeating, and autopsy results showed a deformed stomach and a ruptured stomach, which was the direct cause of her death. The streamer ate over 22 pounds of food, which could not be digested. Interestingly, she had previously been hospitalized due to stomach bleeding caused by overeating but was discharged after a few days and returned to streaming.

Overeating in front of the camera has become such a significant problem in China that in 2020, the country banned publishing this type of content. Violating this ban can result in a fine of up to 10,000 yuan, which translates to over $1,300.
