China vows to retaliate against Trump's heavy tariffs
China is ready to negotiate with the USA on tariffs, but the dialogue must be based on mutual respect and equality, said He Yongqian, a spokeswoman for the Ministry of Commerce in Beijing, on Thursday. She admitted that the challenges facing Chinese trade have significantly increased.
Responding to multiple questions during a press conference, the spokeswoman strongly condemned the actions of U.S. President Donald Trump, who imposed tariffs totaling 125% on the import of Chinese products.
Beijing comments on American tariffs
The spokeswoman stated that this severely infringes upon the rights of Chinese companies and undermines stability in the global economic system.
"We will never accept the U.S.'s extreme pressure and bullying behavior," declared He.
She pointed out that although it was impossible to win in a trade war, China would not "back down in the face of bullying" in response to further decisions by Washington.
He declared that Beijing will remain firmly committed to maintaining a high degree of openness to the international community while pursuing its own course. She indicated that this approach by the People's Republic of China is intended to support the stability of the global economy.
The ministry informed that it is taking measures aimed at supporting companies involved in foreign transactions in expanding sales opportunities in the domestic market.
China reacts to the US decision
The Chinese government decided on Wednesday to raise retaliatory tariffs on goods imported from the USA from 34% to 84%. This was in response to the implementation by the American administration of tariffs totaling 104%. A few hours later, Trump, announcing a 90-day pause in the application of increased tariffs for other countries, informed about raising tariffs for China to 125%.
