China builds colossal military hub, dwarfs the Pentagon
American intelligence agents have spotted an impressively large military infrastructure in China through satellite images. This complex has been constructed near Beijing, and the so-called "Chinese Pentagon" is reportedly at least ten times the size of its American counterpart.
The Chinese military complex, located 19 miles from the capital, was captured by the Sentinel-2 probe from the European Space Agency. The photographs suggest that the Chinese began implementing the project last year.
The construction of this massive structure, as determined by satellite image analysis, began in mid-2024. The development covers an area of about 2.3 square miles (or over 840,000 soccer fields).
A Chinese military complex is emerging, set to be 10 times larger than the Pentagon
According to the "Financial Times," it's possible that China has included reinforced bunkers in this complex. These might be intended to protect command structures from nuclear attacks.
There's nothing unusual about this precautionary measure by China, given that the People's Republic of China is among the nine countries with nuclear weapons.
Lyle Morris of the Asia Society Policy Institute recalls events from the late '60s in China when Mao Zedong and his closest associates sought refuge underground during a significant conflict with the Soviet Union.
The new military complex near Beijing is expected to open in 2027, coinciding with the centennial celebration of the founding of the Chinese People's Liberation Army.
