Chamomile tea is among the most favored herbal teas. It is well-known for its stress-relieving properties. Interestingly, fresh chamomile flowers are edible, allowing for the creation of a unique and beneficial drink.

Chamomile for stress and mood improvement

Chamomile is often used to soothe stomach ailments. Its compounds, such as bisabolol and matricin, have anti-inflammatory and antispasmodic effects, which can help alleviate muscle spasms and discomfort in the digestive tract. Consuming chamomile is recommended for issues such as bloating, indigestion, or inflammation of the gastric mucosa.

Known as a traditional remedy for stress, chamomile acts as a relaxant, calming nerves, reducing tension, and aiding sleep. Apigenin, a primary component of chamomile, binds to GABA receptors in the brain, contributing to relaxation and peace.

Although chamomile is generally safe for most people, there are some contraindications. Individuals allergic to plants in the Asteraceae family, such as marigolds or calendula, may experience an allergic reaction. Consulting a doctor before starting chamomile is advisable, especially for pregnant or breastfeeding women and people on anticoagulant drugs.

The unique benefit of a chamomile cocktail comes from consuming the whole chamomile flower rather than just an infusion. This drink is best prepared with fresh chamomile flowers, which can grow wild in fields, along roads, and in meadows from May to July. However, a cocktail made with dried flowers is also beneficial, ensuring the use of whole flower heads.

A chamomile cocktail is a blend of the herb with fruits. The simplest recipe combines three bananas with eight fresh or dried chamomile flowers and half a cup of water, blended until smooth. This drink can be consumed as needed and can be adjusted according to taste preferences. However, avoid combining chamomile with dairy products, as they can inhibit the action of flavonoids present in chamomile.
