Celine Dion has announced on her social media the premiere of her new documentary film, "I Am: Celine Dion." As the title suggests, the film will closely examine the singer's battle with an incurable disease known as stiff-person syndrome. Dion has been coping with this neurological disorder since December 2022, leading her to step back from her professional commitments.

The diagnosis was unexpected for Celine, compelling her to cancel her European tour planned for 2023. However, she recognized the importance of prioritizing her health.

What is Stiff-Person Syndrome?

Stiff-person syndrome, also referred to as stiff-man syndrome, is a rare neurological disorder. It is marked by a progressive increase in muscle stiffness and frequent muscle spasms. These symptoms can vary in intensity, often exacerbated by sudden emotional stress, loud noises, or physical touch.
The exact cause of the syndrome remains unknown, but it is believed to possibly have an autoimmune component, given its association with other autoimmune disorders. It has been observed to occur more often in women than in men.

By May 2023, with a heavy heart, she had to cancel the remainder of her tour dates, expressing, "I'm sorry to let you down again... I'm working very hard to regain my strength, but performing can be incredibly demanding, even when you're in good health."

The Film About Celine Dion

The eagerly anticipated documentary "I Am: Celine Dion" is set to premiere on June 25 on Prime Video. Directed by the Oscar-nominated Irene Taylor, the film presents a side of Dion that she has never shown to her fans before.

It portrays Dion's struggle with an incurable disease, which caused her to step away from her career. Additionally, the documentary emphasizes the significance of music in her life and her unyielding determination. At 56 years old, Dion remains hopeful and plans to return to the stage.
