Thousands of residents in Gaza and Tel Aviv are celebrating in the streets following the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, according to reports from AFP and the Associated Press. The agreement has been confirmed by Hamas and representatives from Qatar, who acted as mediators during the talks. The Times of Israel notes that Israel is finalizing the last details of the agreement.
The ceasefire in the Gaza Strip is becoming a reality, according to the Associated Press and AFP. It includes the release of hostages taken by Hamas on October 7, 2023. The Israeli government has not yet commented on these reports. However, the Times of Israel, citing a "senior Israeli official familiar with the negotiations," stated that Hamas "yielded" on the demands concerning the Philadelphi Corridor. It was noted that some details are still being finalized.
American correspondent for the Times of Israel, Jacob Magid, announced on platform X that a declaration of the ceasefire by politicians is expected in "a few hours." He cited officials from the US and Saudi Arabia involved in the peace talks.
The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) have not commented on the ceasefire reports. As of Tuesday, January 14, they posted on platform X stating that Hamas terrorists would not hesitate to place rocket launchers in a coffin.
President-elect Donald Trump and his incoming administration have credited themselves with the agreement. "This EPIC ceasefire agreement could have only happened as a result of our Historic Victory in November, as it signaled to the entire World that my Administration would seek Peace and negotiate deals to ensure the safety of all Americans, and our Allies," Trump wrote on Truth Social. He assured that once he returns to the White House, the world can expect more such "victories." His inauguration will take place on January 20.
