The cargo ship Amnah capsized at the Ambarli-Marpot port in Istanbul on December 23. As a result of the incident, some containers fell into the water, and five out of the 15 crew members jumped overboard.

The remaining ten people were rescued by emergency teams, and one person with minor injuries was hospitalized.

Causes of the accident

The Governor of Istanbul Province, Davut Gul, indicated that the cause of the ship's capsizing might have been improper load balancing. The investigation into the matter is ongoing.

The Turkish Ministry of Transport assured that there is no threat to the marine environment.

The Port Authority is conducting operations to remove the containers from the water and raise the ship. Floating barriers have been placed around the site to prevent the containers from drifting away.
