Canada threatens tariffs on Tesla in response to US policies

American tariffs—though currently uncertain—have prompted Canadian politicians to speak openly about the possibility of a trade war. Their focus is on products associated with Elon Musk.

Doug Ford, Ontario's Secretary of State, vowed to completely discard the Starlink contract, which serves as the infrastructure for internet access. The $100 million agreement was designed to provide connectivity to rural areas in the province. Ford took full responsibility for President Trump and suggested that Musk have a serious discussion with his close associate.

Starlink was scheduled for a summer launch, but Ford clarified during an official press conference that provincial authorities will not support a business that harms their economy.

Meanwhile, Chrystia Freeland, a member of parliament, suggested implementing 100-percent tariffs on Tesla vehicles and American alcohol. She emphasized the need for "effective and precise" responses to President Trump's actions. With her party soon holding elections for a new leader, we can expect more categorical positions to be taken.

President Trump has temporarily suspended the imposition of tariffs on products from Canada and Mexico for a month. The main reason cited was the porous borders through which the dangerous drug fentanyl enters the United States.
