California governor may be recalled from office? Second attempt at recall
According to Politco, conservative activists have initiated a new effort to recall Governor Gavin Newsom in California. They aim to leverage frustration regarding the state's significant budget shortfall, contending that it's crucial to halt the prominent White House ally before he embarks on his own presidential campaign.

On Monday morning, the citizen-led organization Rescue California submitted a recall notice to the governor's office, outlining the rationale for their second attempt following the failure of the initial effort. Granted 700,000 illegal immigrants free health care at a cost to taxpayers of $3 billion annually while cutting vital programs for veterans, school children, the disabled, and the homeless.
Allegations against the governor
On the Rescue California website, we can read five allegations that citizens from group Rescue California have against the incumbent governor of California:
- Kept schools closed during Covid longer than other states allowing California students to fall further behind in basic skills such as language and mathematics.
- Closed prisons and ordered the release of thousands of dangerous criminals onto our streets.
- Weakened our public safety laws, creating an epidemic of smash and grab crimes and violent assaults.
- Forced Californians to suffer under the highest taxes in the nation and the highest home prices outside Hawaii, while he undermines Prop. 13.
- Spends billions on government homeless programs that have repeatedly failed.
California governor's response
Gavin Newsom replied to his opponents on Twitter. "Trump Republicans are launching another wasteful recall campaign to distract us from the existential fight for democracy and reproductive freedom" - we can read on his official Twitter. The governor also added, "We will defeat them."
According to CBS News, Rescue California has stated that for this new attempt, they require fewer signatures than before. While the previous effort necessitated 1.75 million signatures, they now assert that only 1.3 million valid signatures are needed.
