BYD to create 2,000 jobs with new European center in Hungary

Chinese brands are paying more attention to the European automotive market. This is demonstrated by the announcements from the BYD Corporation, which plans to open a local development center. The official announcement was made by the company's president on May 15.

On Thursday, May 15, a conference took place in Budapest with the participation of BYD president Wang Chuanfu and Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban. The conference addressed the creation of a European development center to be located in Hungary.

Wang explained that the investment would provide Hungary with at least 2,000 jobs across various positions. The BYD development center will handle sales and after-sales services, as well as test and develop new models tailored to European preferences.

If the project proceeds, it will be another addition to Chinese businesses in Hungary. Since 2016, a BYD bus factory has been operating in Komarom, Hungary, and another plant, which will produce electric cars, is currently under construction. It's also noteworthy that a similar investment is currently being made in Izmir, Turkey.

Under Viktor Orban's leadership, Hungary has become the most pro-Chinese country in the EU, making the choice of location for the new BYD development center unsurprising.
