At the 2024 Beijing International Auto Show, attendees were captivated by various vehicles, including several electric cars and those with traditional combustion engines. Among the standouts was the BYD Qin LDM-i, a generously sized mid-range sedan with a plug-in hybrid drive boasting an impressive range. Notably, this model's pricing is highly competitive, a typical trait of Chinese manufacturers.
Affordable Chinese Sedan
Chinese firms have taken the lead in the mobile phone industry and are now making significant inroads into the automotive sector. The BYD Qin LDM-i's size aligns with the standard dimensions of mid-size sedans. It measures 190 inches in length, 75 inches in width, and 59 inches in height, with a wheelbase of 110 inches, ensuring ample interior space. Despite these dimensions, the hybrid system's gasoline engine has a modest 1.5-liter capacity.
The BYD Qin LDM-i is available in several equipment packages. Options include a large 15.6-inch screen, NFC digital key, lane-keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, and comfortable seating. While it may not match the speed of models like the Tesla Model S Plaid or the high-powered Xiaomi SU7 Ultra, with power outputs of 107 or 161 HP, it is more than capable in its class.
Range of 1243 miles
Designed with economy and comfort in mind, the manufacturer claims that a full tank and charged battery can deliver an impressive range of up to 1243 miles. The plug-in hybrid drive also supports electric-only driving. BYD reports an exceptional fuel efficiency of about 81 miles per gallon, positioning this model as the ideal taxi choice.
The pricing is attractively low, as expected from a Chinese brand. These models range from $16,000 to just over $20,000, making them significantly more affordable than their European, Japanese, or Korean counterparts. Despite its appeal, it remains unclear whether the BYD Qin LDM-i will be available in markets outside of China.
