Although probably few people pay attention to the exact moment they brush their teeth in the morning—whether they do it right after waking up or before or after breakfast—this timing has a huge impact on enamel. Dentist Dr. Shaadi Manouchehri shared important points on social media that can protect enamel from damage.

When to brush your teeth in the morning?

Most of us don't pay attention to the order of our morning routine. According to Dr. Shaadi Manouchehri, this mistake can cost us a lot.

She said never to brush your teeth after eating breakfast in a video on her Instagram profile, adding that brushing your teeth before eating is much better.

Why? Brushing your teeth right after breakfast slowly damages the enamel.

When we wake up in the morning, we have a lot of bacteria in our mouths, which should be brushed away before eating breakfast, added Dr. Shaadi Manouchehri.

Do not brush your teeth after coffee

The advice to brush teeth before breakfast is not the only tip Dr. Manouchehri shared. The dentist emphasized that a common mistake is brushing teeth right after drinking coffee, which is more harmful than brushing after breakfast.

She highlighted in the same video that you should not brush your teeth after drinking coffee, explaining that brushing after consuming anything acidic is harmful to dental health.

Wait at least 30-60 minutes after drinking coffee. You don't have to brush your teeth immediately after; rinse them with mouthwash or drink water, she added.

The reason she advises against brushing the teeth after drinking coffee is due to its acidity. Coffee is one of the main causes of enamel erosion, leading to tooth discoloration. Teeth can become yellow, and regaining their white color can be difficult.
