The incident took place on the night of Friday to Saturday (October 25/26) at 10:15 PM in Frodsham, northwestern England. On Saturday, a video initially showed Amesbury pointing at a man lying on the sidewalk and shouting: "Yes I am [the MP], yes I am, and you won't threaten the MP ever again, will you?"

Mike Amesbury issued a statement saying he felt "threatened on the street after going out with friends" and contacted the Cheshire County police himself to report the incident. However, the circumstances remain unclear.

A breakthrough occurred on Sunday afternoon (October 27) when "The Mail on Sunday" published street surveillance footage, shedding new light on the matter. It shows the MP getting into a heated argument with a man and then unexpectedly punching him in the face. When the victim falls, Amesbury delivers six more blows. Three random passersby stop the further aggression.

A video of this incident is circulating online. It was published on Sky News's profile on the platform X, showing a close-up of the MP punching the victim. Moments later, bystanders intervene.
