British BASE jumper's fatal leap from Bangkok skyscraper captured in chilling video
Nathy Odinson, 33, often shared videos of his stunts on social media. Although the British national engaged in a high-risk hobby, he was not aware that this particular jump would cost him his life...
Native to Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire, Odinson, as a BASE jumper, had to pay special attention to his compact parachute.
Since these types of jumps occur from much lower heights than traditional parachute jumps, it's crucial that the parachute deploys correctly and at the right time.
Failure to achieve this puts the jumper in a detrimental situation.
Odinson's last words to his companion: "See you"
Odinson and his companion illicitly climbed onto the roof of a skyscraper in Thailand under the cover of darkness. As experienced jumpers will tell you, illegally accessing the rooftops of various buildings is an integral part of BASE jumping.
The video shows Odinson preparing for his fatal leap. Among other things, we see him adjusting his helmet, complete with a camera, and securing his parachute.
"Three, two, one... see you!" shouted the Brit before he jumped.
Those were his final words. The video captures the chilling sound of his fall while his friend, the person recording the video, curses under his breath.
As reported by the Daily Mail, Odinson initially landed on a tree, following which he made a fatal fall to the ground. He succumbed to his injuries soon after. The police now possess the video, as it will serve as crucial evidence in the ongoing investigation.
Many online users claim Odinson's gear was of unclear quality; even his parachute, in their opinion, seemed to resemble a net rather than a functional parachute. Some observers went on to note that Odinson did not meticulously examine the state of his parachute and its setup before the fatal crawl.
