Britain's first transgender man celebrates milestone birth

How did the pregnancy happen?
Malachi Clarke lived as a woman until the age of 17 before undergoing a gender transition. His pregnancy became possible because he took a break from hormonal therapy due to acne issues. "My features became a bit softer, and my facial hair got lighter, but I didn’t feel feminine – I just felt like myself," Clarke explains in an interview with "The Mirror".
On the child's birth certificate, Malachi is listed as "mother", but he doesn't plan to challenge this legally. "I don’t care that I’m down as mother on the birth certificate. I know who I am – I’m his dad," he explains. The boy, who is now two years old and on the autism spectrum, calls his parents "daddy" (Malachi) and "dadda" (Charlie).
The family plans to expand and is open to the idea of another natural conception for Malachi, despite the requirement for another break in hormonal therapy. "I’m proud I gave birth as a man and want more children. We’d like a sibling for our son, so he always has a friend," Malachi admits. The couple decided to share their story to highlight the positive aspects of being transgender. "We want people to see there is a positive side to being trans. The media paints us as predators but we’re just a couple getting on with life," they explain.
