Years ago, the affection that developed between Brigitte Macron and Emmanuel Macron stirred a massive scandal. The current President of France was 15 when he fell in love with Brigitte, his then-teacher, who was 25 years his senior. Despite Emmanuel's parents sending him to Paris with the hope that he would change schools, his romantic involvement with the older woman flourished against all odds. Years later, Brigitte confessed she had hoped that during Emmanuel's time in Paris, "he would fall in love with someone of his own age".

"I convinced myself that being in Paris, he would fall in love with someone his own age. But that didn't happen." - quoted by Daily Mail.

Nevertheless, their love for each other persisted. A few years later, Brigitte divorced her first husband and formalized her relationship with Emmanuel. However, before this unconventional affection found its final destination at the altar, Brigitte delayed her marriage decision. During an exclusive interview with 'Paris Match', France's First Lady revealed her concerns.

It was exactly ten years before Brigitte decided to formalize her relationship with Emmanuel Macron. Now in her seventies, she does not hide that the main reason for such a decision were her three children, who are roughly the same age as her younger partner. Her son is three years older than Macron, and her daughter was in the same class as him. Brigitte even quit her job due to the relationship, however continuously emphasized that "the only obstacle" were her children, whose lives she did not want to "ruin" with her decision.

"It took me ten years to get it on the right track. You can imagine what they heard, but I didn't want to miss out on my life." — Brigitte confessed in 'Paris Match'

In 2007, Brigitte finally married Macron, who was then a thirty-year-old state official. Although the First Lady refrains from sharing much about her relationship, in a conversation with "Paris Match," she admitted that her husband still manages to surprise her with his impressive intelligence.
