Breakfast timing and your heart. How meal schedules can make or break cardiovascular health

It appears that the timing of the day's first meal is crucial. The study results suggested that delaying breakfast could negatively affect heart health. Each hour of delay in eating breakfast after waking up increases the risk of heart disease by 6 percent. However, this doesn't imply that everyone should eat breakfast simultaneously. Instead, it means one should eat breakfast immediately or nearly immediately after getting out of bed, regardless of when they wake up.

The studies also indicated that eating an evening meal (after 9 p.m.) might result in a 28 percent increase in the risk of cardiovascular diseases, particularly among women. Consequently, it may be beneficial to reevaluate our daily meal schedule to promote the proper functioning of the cardiovascular system.

Balancing Hunger and Overeating

Scientists also stress the importance of regular eating. Proper meal planning to avoid extreme hunger or overeating is critical for health maintenance. Skipping breakfast and eating irregularly can affect our mood and energy levels and significantly raise the risk of cardiac problems.

In light of the adverse effects of overeating, one should remember that moderate eating is a critical factor in the longevity of older Japanese people, who eat until they feel only about 80 percent full. This practice, founded on mindful eating, aids in limiting calorie intake and reducing body inflammation, potentially contributing to a longer life.
