A bizarre situation occurred during a league match in Brazil’s Serie B. Defenders from the Sport Recife team made a catastrophic error in the 18th second of the game, resulting in an own goal. Interestingly, the opposing team didn’t even come into contact with the ball.

Players took the lead without touching the ball

Soccer writes various scenarios, but situations like this happen very rarely. The Sport Recife team hosted Novorizontino in the 12th round of Brazil’s Serie B. Many fans filled the stands, and probably none of them expected one of the most absurd situations of the season.

The hosts started the match and quickly began exchanging passes among themselves. After a few seconds, the ball reached defender Alisson Cassiano, who was pressured by the visiting team’s left-back, Reverson. The distracted 30-year-old passed “blindly” towards the goalkeeper in the direction of the goal but failed to notice that the goalkeeper had stepped out of the penalty area to be closer to the play. Thus, in the 18th second of the game, Novorizontino took the lead without touching the ball.

Footage of the goal immediately hit social media and became a viral sensation online. Users were astonished at how the defender could behave so irresponsibly. Hundreds of comments appeared, noting that this was probably the easiest way to take the lead in the history of football. Many people blame the goalkeeper, pointing out that he shouldn’t have left the goal in such a situation and the defender had the right to pass “blindly.”

"What is the centre-back doing? He didn't even look before passing the ball"; "Fire that goalkeeper immediately," - frustrated users commented.
