Cate Blanchett is a true legend of global cinema. The actress has so many films to her name that surely everyone has seen at least 10 featuring her. You probably remember her as Galadriel from "The Lord of the Rings," the beautiful Meredith from "The Talented Mr. Ripley," or Daisy from "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button." Blanchett has Oscar-winning roles to her name, but also those that simply brought her a lot of joy – to name just one, comic-book Hela from "Thor: Ragnarok." Now, she has the chance to play another character that allows her to completely transform her image.
Above, you can listen to an interview with Cate Blanchett, where she talks about working on the "Borderlands" movie. The bar was set very high. After all, the game of the same name, which first came out in 2009, already has cult status. As noted in 2022, over 77 million copies of the first game and 26 million of the second have been sold. When the third part was released, it took just five days for 5 million copies to be sold. Overall, the game was said to have brought its creators a profit of $1 billion, making it the highest-grossing franchise among games ever released.
And when that happens, a movie adaptation is just a matter of time. Eli Roth directed this spectacle. He previously worked with Blanchett on "The House with a Clock in Its Walls." In the adaptation, besides Cate, you'll also see Jack Black, Kevin Hart, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Edgar Ramirez.
Blanchett admitted she was unfamiliar with the game before receiving the script. Her introduction to "Borderlands" involved researching online, where she quickly discovered the game’s prominence as a leading looter-shooter. While her older children and their friends were already well-acquainted with it, she realized the game had a vast and dedicated audience. She tried playing it herself, but found it challenging, often running into obstacles. Despite this, she found the game to be entertaining, sarcastic, and wildly imaginative.
She emphasizes that the real joy for viewers will be watching the adventures of the various characters.
Just before the movie's theatrical release, the star praises the production and amplifies interest. Will it be a summer box office hit? She hope audiences would come together in theaters to experience an amazing and thrilling journey. She also mentioned that she plans to watch it herself, sitting in the dark with fellow moviegoers and fully immersing herself in the adventure.
