BMW unveils stunning skytop concept ahead of Villa D'este show
The automotive elegance contest at Villa d'Este is fast approaching. BMW wouldn't be itself if it didn't prepare something special for the occasion. Enter the Skytop Concept, a vehicle that surprises you with its elegant presence and open roof.
In recent years, BMW has been quite bold with its styling, which is evident in most of the brand's new releases. Each successive premiere from Bavaria stirs more or less controversy. Yet, it turns out the Germans still remember how to create elegant cars – the Skytop Concept is a prime example of this.
Although the inspiration for it was supposedly the Z8 and 503, many will see more of the 8 Series in it. There's nothing wrong with that, as the 8 is indeed a beautiful car. However, the Skytop Concept outshines it.
From every angle, it looks phenomenal, perfectly blending modernity with timeless elegance. The kidney grille is large but proportional, and the narrow headlights complement it perfectly. The minimalist rear, with a gently sloping trunk lid and thin LED strips, looks even better. The cherry on top, however, is the roof.
BMW opted for a Targa body with a removable roof panel that can be stored in the trunk space. This illuminates an interior that looks like it was taken straight from the 8 Series. The drivetrain is also identical, as it uses the same 4.4-liter V8 from the M8 Competition.
The Skytop Concept will undoubtedly be a worthy representation of BMW at Villa d'Este, joining the brand's pantheon of exceptionally successful concept cars.
