Blizzard warning: Heavy snow in North California - over 10 feet of snow
The National Weather Service has warned about extremely hazardous whiteout conditions, stating that travel will be 'impossible.' They also caution against potential avalanches, tree damage, and power disruptions.
The biggest storm in the sesaon
Forecasters indicate that a Pacific storm, carrying intense winds and significant snowfall, is expected to be the season's most powerful event as it advances toward California. It brings with it the possibility of blizzard conditions in the Sierra. By the weekend, it could deliver as much as 10 feet (approximately 3 meters) of snow in the mountainous regions surrounding Lake Tahoe.
Blizzard warnings are in place across a broad swath of the Sierra Nevada, extending to areas including the Northeast Foothills, Motherlode, and western regions of Plumas and Lassen counties at elevations above 2,000 feet. These advisories encompass ski destinations like Mammoth Mountain and Palisades Tahoe and reach an area near Redding, California, in the north. In more northern locales, winter storm warnings cover the elevated landscapes.
Blizzard warning Wednesday for a 300-mile (482-kilometer) stretch of the Sierra from north of Lake Tahoe to south of Yosemite National Park, effective from 4 a.m. Thursday to 10 a.m. Sunday, according to The National Weather Service in Reno.
"Do not take this storm lightly (...) Whiteout conditions are very disorienting, so this is not the time to gamble with you or your family’s lives," - informed The National Weather Service in Reno.
