Blinken's Cautious Diplomacy: U.S. Aims to Avoid Escalation with Iran, Russia
Secretary of State Antony Blinken, in conversations with Benny Gantz from Israel's war cabinet, expressed the United States' desire to avoid further escalation of conflicts, as reported by U.S. State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller. Blinken's cautious stance stems from the intention to prevent World War III, especially in light of the U.S.'s decision against shooting down Russian missiles over Ukraine.

During talks on Tuesday with Gantz and the Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Qatar, Blinken reiterated his opposition to escalating conflicts, Miller shared in a press briefing.
Miller also highlighted that while Israel may choose to respond militarily to an Iranian missile attack as a matter of national sovereignty, the U.S. has clearly communicated its support for Israel's defense without endorsing further escalation.
Gantz recently stated that Israel reserves the right to decide when and where it will respond to threats. He revealed, quoting discussions with a senior American official, that Tel Aviv and the U.S. are working together to form a global and regional coalition against Tehran.
"Iran represents a significant global and regional challenge, threatening Israel directly. It's imperative for the international community to counteract this militarily and impose sanctions to curb its belligerence," Gantz articulated at a summit hosted by the "Israel Hajom" newspaper.
Ukraine's Frustration
Miller addressed Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's recent comments. Zelenskyy lamented the lack of equivalent support from partners that could bolster Ukraine's defenses like Israel's. Miller expressed empathy for Zelenskyy’s frustration, noting the distinct nature of the U.S.'s formal alliance with Israel compared to its relationship with Ukraine.
The USA does not want World War III
Miller emphasized the U.S. wish to avoid direct conflict with Russia.
"The US President has made this very clear. I think it is in the interests of the American people that we do not engage in a direct armed conflict with Russia because that would be World War III," he explained. Furthermore, he acknowledged the U.S.'s steadfast commitment to Ukraine's defense, reinforced by American aid, which has enabled Ukrainian forces to intercept Russian missiles.
