Blinken emphasized that the United States and other G7 countries are committed to supporting Ukraine in its struggle. Following the G7 summit in Rome, Blinken noted that Ukraine should be prepared to continue fighting through 2025 or negotiate from a position of strength.
"Considering what I hear from our partners, we will continue to support Ukraine," said Blinken, as reported by the Polish Press Agency.
The American politician added that a $50 billion loan for Ukraine is expected to be finalized by the end of the year. The funds will come from frozen Russian assets.
Blinken expressed concern over the deepening cooperation between Russia and North Korea, which involves North Korean soldiers participating in the war against Ukraine. He pointed out that the Moscow–Pyongyang relationship is reciprocal, and the United States is monitoring what North Korea receives from Russia in exchange for its assistance.
The role of China in the conflict
The U.S. Secretary of State urged China to play a role in blocking cooperation between Russia and North Korea. "The United States will take further steps to strengthen our own deterrent and defense capabilities," announced Blinken, as the Polish Press Agency reported. He added that while such actions are not aimed at China, they may not be well received by Beijing.
Blinken also discussed ongoing talks for a 60-day ceasefire in Lebanon between Israel and Hezbollah. He expressed hope for a swift finalization of the agreement, which could also increase the chances of ending the fighting in the Gaza Strip.
Blinken repeatedly stressed the importance of continued support for Ukraine, highlighting its significance not only for European security but also for the United States. He assured the unwavering support of the American administration for its allies and for Ukraine.
