Until recently, the sexual orientation of Billie Eilish was purely the subject of speculation. She had repeatedly refrained from commenting on it. However, at the Variety Hitmakers Brunch, a journalist broached the topic by asking the Oscar-winning artist about her relationships with women.
Is Billie Eilish Bisexual?
When asked, Billie responded that she finds women beautiful, although they do make her feel somewhat afraid. The surprised journalist questioned whether this was her way of revealing her sexuality. Eilish mentioned that it should have been obvious and the act of "outing" seemed unnecessary to her.
Billie Criticizes Variety's Actions
Billie Eilish was evidently annoyed by the interaction with the journalist from Variety. She shared an image of a toilet on Instagram, captioning it with, "Thank you Variety for the award and for outing me on the red carpet at 11 AM Eastern Time, instead of focusing on issues that truly matter. I am attracted to both boys and girls. If anyone cares, stream 'What was I made for'".

In an accompanying Instagram story, she included a snippet from the interview and two photos with evocative song clips. Both Nicki Minaj's "Stupid Hoe" and Yo Gotti's "F-U" were featured, effectively conveying Billie Eilish's frustration with enforced outings.
Is There a Purpose Behind Outing?
Outing is the act of publicly revealing a non-heterosexual orientation, which is usually done voluntarily. However, there are circumstances where coming out is driven by external pressure. This was the case for Kit Connor, who had to face it due to pressure from "Heartstopper" show viewers.
The question that arises is whether there's any need to proclaim one's sexual orientation publicly. Given that sexual or romantic preferences are highly personal, considering them worthy of public disclosure is debatable.
