A wave of commentary is flooding social media, with more politicians and world leaders weighing in.

The decision to withdraw from the campaign was also addressed by the Republican vice-presidential candidate J.D. Vance.

Vance on Biden: The worst president

"Joe Biden was the worst president in my lifetime, and Kamala Harris accompanied him every step of the way. In the past four years, she has supported Biden's policies of open borders and green scams, which have driven up housing and grocery prices," writes J.D. Vance on X.

"President Trump and I are ready to save America, regardless of who is at the top of the Democrats' list," he adds.

Earthquake in the USA: Biden withdraws, Harris confirms

Joe Biden announced on Sunday on X that he is withdrawing from the presidential race. He will justify his decision in an address to the nation and declare that he will fulfill his duties until the end of his term.

The probable new Democratic Party candidate will be Vice President Kamala Harris. Her statement has appeared online.

Harris highlighted in her communication that she is "honored to have the president's support" and now intends to earn the Democratic Party's nomination.

"There are 107 days left until the election. Together we will fight. And together we will win," reads Harris's statement, which appeared on the campaign's website rather than via the White House.

"I will do everything in my power to unite the Democratic Party and our country to defeat Donald Trump," Harris emphasized.
