"The president promised that he would attend the inauguration of whomever won the election. He and the First Lady are going to honor that promise and attend the inauguration," said Andrew Bates, senior deputy press secretary of the White House.

He added that Biden believes it is an "important demonstration of commitment to our democratic values and to honoring the will of the people."

Donald Trump did not attend Joe Biden's inauguration

It's worth noting that Donald Trump did not attend Mr. Biden's inauguration in 2021. The ceremony took place two weeks after Trump's supporters stormed the Capitol before the election results certification.

Trump was the first president in over 150 years not to attend the inauguration of his successor.
