'My national security advisor tells me that we're close, we're close, we're not done yet. My hope is by next Monday we'll have a ceasefire", the US president conveyed to reporters during his visit to New York.

On Monday, Israel responded to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in The Hague, submitting a report outlining actions taken following the Tribunal's ruling. The court had ordered Israel to employ all possible means to avert death, destruction, and any acts of genocide against Palestinians in Gaza.

An unidentified Israeli official reported the submission of this report, the content of which has not been disclosed, just hours before the ICJ's set deadline, according to the Reuters agency.

The prevailing Hamas in the Gaza Strip launched an attack on Israel on October 7 last year, which led to approximately 1,200 deaths, predominantly civilians. The ensuing counter-aggression by Israel has resulted in over 29,000 Palestinian casualties, according to the Health Department of the Gaza Strip. Almost 90 percent of the territory's over 2 million residents have been driven from their homes.
