Biden highlights stronger alliances, tougher stance on China as he summarizes his foreign policy
President of the USA, Joe Biden, delivered a speech in Washington, summarizing his foreign policy. Biden emphasized that American alliances are currently stronger, and the position against China is more robust than four years ago.
On Monday, President Joe Biden delivered a speech summarizing his foreign policy. "Compared to four year ago America is stronger. Our alliances are stronger. Our adversaries and competitors are weaker," the president stated.
Biden highlighted that his administration leaves the successor with "a very strong hand to play." Biden stated that his administration is leaving the next leadership with a strong foundation, including the United States with more allies, stronger partnerships, and weakened adversaries under pressure. He highlighted that the nation has regained its global leadership, is no longer at war, and is better positioned to succeed in future competition.
The president also addressed challenges facing the USA, such as the war in Ukraine, the situation in the Middle East, competition in the Indo-Pacific region, and the threat from North Korea. "When Putin invaded Ukraine, he thought he'd conquer Kyiv in a matter of days. The truth is, since that war began I'm the only one that stood in the center of Kyiv, not him, Putin never has," emphasized Biden.
The future with AI and green energy
Biden pointed out the importance of artificial intelligence and the green energy transition for the future of the USA. "On artificial intelligence, we are the lead. We must stay in the lead. We must not offshore artificial intelligence, as he once did with computer chips and other critical technologies," the president said.
President Biden stressed that the transition to clean energy is already underway and underscored the importance of the United States prevailing in the competition with China in this sector. He noted that China is working to dominate clean energy production and control critical material supply chains, aiming to secure future market dominance and create new dependencies. Biden emphasized that the United States must succeed in this challenge.
The president also referred to negotiations in Qatar regarding a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, stressing that his team is "pushing hard" to finalize them. National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan noted that the agreement could be reached "within the next few hours or days." Biden's speech was one of the last major appearances of his presidency. On Wednesday, he will deliver a farewell address to the nation from the Oval Office in the White House.
