Portal Politico informs that Biden was compelled to withdraw from the presidential race due to two factors. The key factor turned out to be the latest internal poll.

Joe Biden announced on Sunday that he has decided to withdraw from the election race. He said he came to this decision over 48 hours, analyzing data and polls that indicated his victory was largely unattainable.

Politico reports that the key factor for Biden was the latest internal Democratic poll. For the first time in two months, the party commissioned surveys in some key states—the so-called swing states, where Democrats and Republicans can never be sure of their victory. The results of the voters in these states decide the final result in the presidential elections.

The data indicated that Biden "is not only losing in all six critical 'swing states,' but his support is also decreasing in Virginia and New Mexico", where Democrats expected to win and did not intend to spend very large amounts of money on the campaign. A source from Politico claims that the current president "struggled with making this decision, but once he decided, he began to act quickly."

Pelosi pressured Biden to resign

According to Politico’s sources, Biden's advisors were preparing for actions by Nancy Pelosi, who was working on convincing other party members to take decisive steps prompting the president to end his campaign. She even had a plan to make the Democratic poll public, which would show Biden's difficult political situation.

- Nancy made it clear that it could be done nicely or not - says a Politico source - a Democrat familiar with internal party conversations. Additionally, at least six Democrats planned to call on Biden to withdraw from the campaign on Monday or Tuesday.

Before announcing his decision on Sunday, Biden spoke many times with Vice President Kamala Harris. As Politico emphasizes, although Harris performs better in the polls than other Democrats considered potential candidates, it is difficult to speak of her advantage over Donald Trump.

One of the latest CBS News/YouGov polls shows that Trump leads Harris by three points (51% to 48%), while Biden was losing by five points (52% to 47%).
